SO… WHAT IS THE SABBATH ANYWAY?

It’s a day. It’s Saturday. It’s the day God made at creation specifically for worship. Many religions say it doesn’t matter what day you worship on as long as you worship. Some say they observe the first day of the week in honor of Christ’s resurrection. So…does it really matter? After all, what’s so important about a day anyway?

How much importance do you and I put on a day?

What would happen if you had an important job interview on Monday, but showed up on Tuesday?  The answer is that you simply “wouldn’t be considered” for the position and you can only hope they will show mercy and reschedule you.

What would happen if your non-refundable airline ticket was for Thursday at 10 a.m., but you showed up ready to fly on Friday at 10 a.m.? The answer is, you just lost the price of your ticket.

What would happen if your job required you to work Monday through Friday, but you showed up on Tuesday to work through Saturday? The answer is, you better hope your resume is up to date because…you’re fired.

Each of us knows the value we put on a day and how important it is to keep the appointments made on that day. Ask yourself why God, who created the cycle of days, and made a divine appointment with mankind each Sabbath, would put less importance on keeping His schedule then you and I would?

Consider the following Holy Scripture:

        ·       The Sabbath is Saturday the seventh day of the week. Genesis 2:2
        ·       God blessed the Sabbath and made it holy. Genesis 2:3

God commands us to keep His Sabbath for eternity

        ·       God commands us to “remember” to worship Him each Sabbath. Exodus 20:8
  ·       Its observance is a perpetual (forever) covenant. Exodus 31:16,17

Jesus kept the Sabbath

        ·       Jesus kept the Sabbath throughout His earthly life. Luke 4:16

Jesus disciples kept the Sabbath and no other day

        ·       Jesus disciples kept the Sabbath immediately after His death. Luke 53:54-56
  ·       Twenty years after Jesus’ death Paul was teaching both the Jews and the Gentiles every Sabbath. At one point for a period of eighteen consecutive months. Acts 13:14, 42-44

According to Jesus, the Sabbath is the “Lord’s Day”

        ·       Jesus declares that the Sabbath is the “Lord’s Day.” Matthew 12:8; Mark 2:27-28

God’s Sabbath day of worship was never changed

         ·       We will keep the Sabbath throughout all eternity. Isaiah 66:22-23

If you are truly seeking to know God’s will and want a more in-depth study on the Sabbath? If you want to learn why it “appears” to have been changed, and what religious body claims responsibility for substituting Sunday for God’s Sabbath, select Sabbath Explained, and read the shocking boast about how they claim they did it with no scriptural authority?

 SIMPLY PUT…

We keep the Sabbath because it is the only true and authentic worship day ever given to mankind by God.
